Gilbert Yvel

Dutch striker Gilbert Yvel’s disturbing past transgressions in the sport meant that eyebrows were raised when he the UFC signed him in 2010.

Back in 1998, Yvel had been disqualified for biting his opponent’s ear, while in 2001 he was DQ’d again after gouging at Don Frye’s eye’s and putting his hands on the referee.

Most disturbingly of all, in 2004 he reacted furiously to a referee intervening during a fight and proceeded to floor him with a punch before kicking him unconscious.

Due to his repeated misbehaviour and suspensions the Nevada State Athletic Commission refused to award him a license in 2007, yet in 2010 the UFC welcomed him aboard with open arms.

Luckily for the UFC, Yvel didn’t land in further trouble during his time with the promotion, but he did lose three fights in a row before being released.
