2. Francis Ngannou vs. Derrick Lewis
On paper, this was a fight that couldn’t possibly fail to deliver, featuring two of the most thunderous power punchers ever to set foot inside the Octagon. Not to mention, both had only went to a decision twice in a combined 20 UFC fights.
However, the reality was that this UFC 226 co-main event resembled a pistols-at-dawn showdown in which neither man had bothered to put any bullets in the chamber It resulted in them standing at a distance waving their weapons at each other without actually using them. Just how bad was it though? Well, in 15 minutes of fighting the two men mustered a combined total of 31 strikes (the second lowest in UFC history), with Lewis having registered 20 of those but only landing to Ngannou’s head once.
Both fighters were roasted by their fellow fighters afterward, with Sean O’Connell claiming that the most significant strike had been the opening touch of gloves. Kenny Florian joked his 5-month-old girl had been able to count the number of punches thrown. Dana White didn’t see the funny side though, calling it an ‘Abomination’ while Joe Rogan declared it the worst heavyweight fight he’d ever seen.
