Antonio Carvalho vs Darren Elkins
Antonio Carvalho was coming off back-to-back wins when he went up against Darren Elkins at UFC 158 in 2013 in what would prove to be a fateful night in his career.
The first round began in a competitive fashion, but then with two minute remaining Elkins wobbled Carvalho and then follow-up punches momentarily dropped him, though his knees didn’t even hit the mat before he popped straight back up to feet with his guard held high ready to fight on.
Nevertheless, referee Yves Lavigne still called off the fight, despite Carvalho’s protestations.
Dana White said he felt the stoppage was premature, but nevertheless, Carvalho was released from the UFC afterwards and that would prove to the be the final fight of his 15-6 career.
