David Terrell vs. Scott Smith
Scott Smith had every right to be furious with referee Marco Lopez due to the way his UFC debut against David Terrell went down at UFC 59 in 2006.
Mid-way through the first round the referee told the fighters to seperate after working from the clinch.
Smith heard and complied, but Terrell apparently didn’t and continued fighting, taking him down and subsquently tapped him out with a rear-naked choke.
Remarkably, Lopez didn’t attempt to intervene and declared Terrell the winner.
Smith attempted to appeal the decision, backed up by video and audio from the UFC, which showed that Terrell had called for a break, but the ruling stood, giving ‘Hands Of Steel’ only the second loss of his 12-fight career at the time.
