Gegard Mousasi vs. Chris Weidman
The co-main event of UFC 210 between Gegard Mousasi and Chris Weidman was shaping up to be a thriller judging on the early back-and-forth action.
Things fell apart in the second round though when Mousasi landed two knees to the head of Weidman and referee Dan Miragliotta halted the action and gave him five minutes to recover, believing the knees were illegal.
Weidman gladly took that break and it seemed if we just stayed down and couldn’t continue then he’d be awarded the victory.
However, instant replays then showed that it wasn’t an illegal blow after all. Despite the referee not being allowed to use replays in the state Of New York, word was relayed to him that it was legal and after a lot of deliberation he overruled his initial mistake and declared Mousasi the winner.
It was a wholly unsatisfactory outcome since Weidman would have fought on if the action hadn’t been halted and the referee broke rules in order to reverse his decision, but the ruling stuck.
