#1 Marcus Silveira vs Kazushi Sakuraba

This will probably go down as not just the worst stoppage call in UFC history, but in all of MMA as well. The initial decision was so awful that both Silveira and Sakuraba decided to do a rematch that same night.

Sakuraba was making his second appearance in MMA battling Silveira at UFC 15.5 – Ultimate Japan 1 back in the day. This time, it was iconic referee “Big” John McCarthy committing the blunder.

McCarthy intervened when he saw the Japanese legend fall to the ground after taking a clean one from Silveira. Little did McCarthy know that Sakuraba didn’t actually fall to the ground from a strike, he was actually shooting for a single leg and wasn’t even hurt.

The fight was later on declared a no-contest and the rematch was held later that evening. Sakuraba won via first round armbar.
