5. Forrest Griffin vs. Shogun Rua UFC 76 (15 seconds left)
This was Shogun’s first fight in the UFC after having been dominant in PRIDE. Nobody expected Griffin to win this fight.
Shogun won the 2005 Middleweight Grand Prix in PRIDE, defeating names like Quinton Jackson, Alistair Overeem and Little Nog to do so. He would continue to go undefeated in the promotion, with his only loss coming to Mark Coleman when he broke his arm after being taken down. This fight against Griffin was really expected to be nothing more than a tune-up fight before Shogun would challenge Rampage for the belt.
Only Shogun had a really off night here. He tired early and Forrest ended up taking control of the fight. By the 3rd round Shogun had nothing left, Forrest beat him up most of the round, locked in the choke and Shogun tapped with 15 seconds left. Griffin would go on to win the UFC light heavyweight championship in his next fight.
Shogun would get revenge when they met again at UFC 134, stopping him in the 1st round.
