Roop’s leg visibly goes limp immediately after the kick and you can see the break as he moves it back to base. Although he could tell it was hurt, he still tried to put his weight on the leg before dropping to the mat and retiring.
The injury is reminiscent of the leg-break suffered by Anderson Silva during his rematch with Chris Weidman. It is unknown as of yet, the full extent of the damage to Roop’s leg but it is likely he will be out of competition for some time.
Silva famously returned just over a year after his injury but failed a drugs test in his return fight, against Nick Diaz. Roop will be hoping the injury isn’t too bad and can get back to training as soon as possible.
UFC’s Vice President of Public Relations sent out his condolences to the Bantamweight after the fight on twitter.
Sending my thoughts to @GeorgeRoop, who suffered a leg injury in competition. Heal quickly, brotha. You are one tough dude.
