GSP Chants
Dana White used to describe Canada as the “mecca” of MMA. That is no longer the case however. While MMA is still covered by the mainstream Canadian sports outlets, and while it is still quite popular, it is not what it used to be. GSP stepping away from the sport really hurt in this regards.
I live in Toronto, I’m literally a ten minute walk from where UFC 206 will take place. When it was rumoured that GSP was going to fight at the event, it was big news. Remember this is the city that once held the indoor UFC attendance record with 55,000 people paying to see Georges St. Pierre fight.
Now that people know he won’t be fighting, nobody cares.
It’s possible that chants of “GSP! GSP!” are heard throughout the show as a pseudo-protest. This is something Dana and WME-IMG may not be too happy about, considering the legal battle they are going to go through regarding GSP’s contract.
