Pettis vs Holloway

This is going to be a great fight. Unfortunately the featherweight division feels a little flat now that Conor has vacated the belt and most likely left forever. The division had only one previous champion, and Conor knocked that guy out in “terteen seconds” (Irish for “13 seconds”). Now the guy who got knocked out is champion again and these two are fighting for the interim title. It is also not all that clear why an interim title is on the line here, other than this card badly needed some added intrigue to it.

Holloway has won 9 straight in the UFC, including wins over Cub Swanson, Ricardo Lamas and Jeremy Stephens. He hasn’t lost since dropping a decision to Conor McGregor in August of 2013.

As for Pettis, this is a chance for him to once again have a UFC title wrapped around his waist, even if it has an interim tag on it. Pettis beat Benson Henderson for the lightweight title at UFC 164, and defended it at UFC 181 against Gilbert Melendez. After dropping the belt to Raphael Dos Anjos, he lost consecutive bouts to Eddie Alvarez and Edson Barboza. He picked up a win in his featherweight debut over Charles Oliveira back in August.
