1. Conor McGregor UFC 196
Conor McGregor looked like he was just going to keep conquering things until eventually the entire world was his. Then he got choked out by Nate Diaz at UFC 196.
This isn’t to say that Conor McGregor isn’t still a huge superstar and a big-time draw for fans, but his loss at UFC 196 certainly caused his stock to fall.
Before this fight everything Conor said he was going to do came true, and even the last remaining doubters had to be second guessing themselves when he knocked out Jose Aldo.
Aldo had a feeling of unbearableness to him after dominating the featherweight division since its inception in the UFC, and it was as if Conor inherited that aura when he took his title at UFC 194. That’s why Conor was the favourite heading into UFC 196 against Nate.
Midway through the second round the mood of this fight changed drastically as Conor realized he couldn’t knock Nate out. He panicked, got himself choked out, and his aura of invincibility, however false it was, shattered. How damaging this loss is to Conor’s career depends entirely on what happens in the rematch at UFC 202.
