Raquel Pennington Talked Out Of Quitting
Raquel Pennington did well to even make it out of the first round against ‘The Lioness’ Amanda Nunes, given that the likes of Cris ‘Cyborg’, Ronda Rousey, Miesha Tate and Holly Holm are amongst the big-name stars who have failed to do so.
However, after enduring four rounds of punishment from the dominant champion, Pennington had reached the end of her tether.
“I’m done, I want to be done” a dejected Pennington said as she got up off her stool and turned away from her opponent.
“No, no, no, no!” her coach responded. “I know it hurts, but power through this. Change your mindset….we’ll recover later.”
By that stage Pennington was in bad shape and her nose was potentially broken, but it was the sickening pain in her leg (which had been broken seven months earlier) that fueled her desire to quit.
Nevertheless, ‘Rocky’ did answer the bell, only to then be TKO’d mid-way through the final round.
Pennington’s corner were widely criticized afterwards, but the fighter herself defiantly said post-fight that she was “proud” of her coaches for “not letting me quit on myself.”
