Rory MacDonald vs. Robbie Lawler
The middleweight title fight between Robbie Lawler and Rory MacDonald at UFC 189 in 2015 was one of the most memorable, bloody battles in recent memory, and it took a big toll on both men.
MacDonald unquestionably came off worst though, taking an inhuman amount of punishment over the course of the first four rounds, before finally in the fifth round he ate a thunderous left hand that broke his nose and sent him to the canvas for a TKO loss.
MacDonald’s nose was bloodied and swollen afterwards, but at first glance it may not seem as bad as some of the others shown elsewhere in this article.
Nonetheless, the break would have a major impact on his career as MacDonald would go on to have continual problems with it from that point forward.
In fact, MacDonald would reveal that he broke his nose a further two times while sparring for his next bout against Stephen Thompson, and then broke it again in the actual fight, leading him to admit he had “no idea” what to do to about it.
He would then take a further 11 months off to let his nose fully heal, but unfortunately he has continued to have repeated troubles with it, and indeed is currently nursing another nose break in his most recent loss to Gegard Mousasi at Bellator 206, which will leave him sidelined until 2019.
