8. Tyron Woodley vs. Stephen Thompson 2
An immediate rematch between these two was called for when Woodley and Thompson fought to a majority draw in 2016. But Dana White wished he hadn’t bothered after the two went on to produce one of the most boring title fights in UFC history.
The two fighters had been fairly cautious in their first encounter but took that to a whole new level in their second meeting. Woodley constantly stayed on the outside and refused to engage, while Thompson stalked him but failed completely to turn that forward pressure into actual offense.
The first two rounds were excruciatingly dull and the fans in attendance staved off their boredom by booing incessantly. But alas, that didn’t inspire the fighters to get to work. Only in the final minute of the final round did Woodley briefly come to life, landing a big counterpunch that hurt Thompson. But he couldn’t find a finish. With so little action to go on, the judges only narrowly avoided declaring it a draw again, handing Woodley a majority decision win (48-47 x2, 47-47).
