Matt Wiman vs. Mac Danzig
Mac Danzig had only won once in his past four fights when he went up against Matt Wiman at UFC 115, and was soon caught in a guillotine choke midway through the opening round.
Danzig was defending the submission, but Wiman thought he was out and told the referee, Yves Lavigne, who checked on the fighter’s arm and believing it to be limp, waved off the fight.
Unfortunately it immediately became apparant that the bemused Danzig wasn’t out and had no intention of tapping, but hadn’t been able to move his arm because he was busy posting on Wiman’s knee to defend the choke.
It was too late to reverse the referee’s decision, but Wiman offered Danzig a rematch, which he’d win by unanimous decision.
