Anthony Johnson vs. Kevin Burns
Steve Mazzagatti has made several appearances on this list, but the only bad call he made that he’s actually admitted ruined the outcome of a fight came back in 2008 when Anthony Johnson fought Kevin Burns at UFC Fight Night 14.
In the third round Burns landed a blow that left Johnson clutching his face in pain as he fell forward onto the mat, leading to Mazzagatti rushing in to immediately wave off the fight.
“It looked to me like he got hit with an uppercut,” Mazzagatti admitted on Inside MMA. “He went back, grabbed his face and hit the ground. Later on, we found out it was clear as day an eye poke. We didn’t have the instant replay at the time…so one of those losses on Anthony’s career was due to my bad call.”
After undergoing eye surgery Johnson unsuccessfully attempted to appeal the decision, but did go on to KO Burns in their rematch later that year.
