3. Corey Hill vs. Dale Hartt UFC Fight for the Troops
One of the most gruesome injuries in the history of mixed martial arts occurred when Dale Hartt checked a kick from Corey Hill at UFC Fight for the Troops 2008. Hill’s leg shattered in disgusting fashion, with many people believing the injury was great enough to end his career.
To Hill’s credit he didn’t give up, and while he would never fight in the UFC again, he did return to competition on smaller shows.
Tragedy would strike Hill again 7 years later, when he would die following a sudden bout with pneumonia. Hill had suddenly become sick and needed to have a lung transplant, but his body rejected it. He ended up suffering a heart attack and died at the age of 36.
