4. On MMA Judging
Joe Rogan has frequently been critical of MMA judging, but in early 2016 he went on a long Twitter rant regarding the 10-9 must system that MMA inherited from boxing.
The comments came shortly after Robbie Lawler was awarded a split decision victory over Carlos Condit at UFC 195. In particular Rogan was upset with the lack of rounds being scored 10-8, and that in general judge’s seem almost afraid to ever award rounds by 2 points.
Earlier this month several changes were made to MMA’s judging criteria, including allowing for more scoring of 10-8 rounds. This is in an effort to prevent rounds that are close from being scored the same as rounds in which a fighter is clearly dominant.
