7. Anderson Silva (sometimes)
There have been times that Anderson Silva has not been a very exciting fighter. There was a period of time where Anderson opted to “fight smart” in most of his title defences. Silva would counter-strike but rarely initiate, and if he had dominated the first 3 rounds of the fight he wasn’t going to do anything risky in the 4th or 5th rounds. But then there have been other Silva fights that have been amazing to watch.
While Silva’s fights against Damian Maia, Thales Leites and Patrick Cote failed to deliver any excitement at all, he’s also been awarded 13 performance bonuses, just 1 off the all-time leaders.
Even though there was a brief period where his fights weren’t exciting, everything outside of that period has been great. His brutal knockout of Vitor, his 2-fight rivalry with Chael Sonnen, as well as his dismantling of Rich Franklin, Dan Henderson and Chris Leben is enough of a resume to earn Silva the label of one of the most exciting fighters of all time.
