Alex Constantinides
Alex Constantinides may only have one amateur fight on his record, but he’s a well known amongst the MMA community as ‘Dr. Alex’, a highly respected fight doctor who has been cageside for many big events over the years, including the UFC.
In July of 2011, Constantindes was on a camping trip in Wyoming with his wife and three daughters when they had to evacuate due to torrential rain.
As they attempted to leave in their vehicle they got caught in the midst of a flash flood and were swept into a nearby river and carried 75m downstream.
Tragically, Constantinides entire family were killed in the accident, but he managed to escape to safety.
Not only that, but Constantinides then found the strength to become a hero by rescuing the local Mayor, John Zeiger, whose vehicle was also swept into the same spot in the river and was rescued by the doctor.
Despite his unimaginable grief, Constantinides returned to work within a month, explaining that, “Giving care is a very different part of your brain than grieving and receiving care, and it’s a part of my brain that still works.”
