Angela Magana
During her time in the UFC, Angela Magana decided to move to Puerto Rico to live and train, but then found herself in the eye of the storm a year later in 2017 when category 5 Hurricane Maria bore down on the region.
Ignoring police advice to evacuate, Magana was able to batten down the hatches and survive what would prove to be the third costliest tropical cyclone in history, but Puerto Rico had taken the brunt of the damage and almost 3,000 people lost their lives.
Magana witnessed firsthand the devastating impact after the hurricane was over, with many people left homeless or without electricity and basic supplies.
In desperation Magana took to social media to try to raise funds to help those in need in her area and admitted to contemplating stealing water from nearby hotels to give to those who didn’t have access to it.
Magana had a bad reputation in the UFC at the time which would hinder her charity endeavours, but still managed to raise thousands of dollars to help get local people water, flashlights, batteries and other essential goods.
