Kimbo Slice

The late Kimbo Slice’s remarkable life story could have taken a whole different direction if it hadn’t been for Hurricane Andrew, which struck Florida in August of 1992.

At the time Slice was a middle linebacker at Miami’s Palmetto High and was hoping to land a college scholarship, but the hurricane would destroy his mother’s home as he hid from the flying debris under a matress and led to the school’s season being cut short, and with it shut down his football dreams too.

That marked the start of a downward spiral in Slice’s life and two years later he was essentially homeless and living out of his 1987 Pathfinder car.

Of course Kimbo would go on to turn his life around, doing odd jobs as a bouncer and bodyguard before becoming one of YouTube’s first breakout stars as a formidable backyard brawler, before turning to MMA and fighting for the likes of Elite XC, UFC and Bellator.
