The Fabricio Werdum Boomerang Incident

When Covington badmouthed Brazil he enraged not only fans in the country,  but also many of it’s fighters too.

Among them was former heavyweight champion Fabricio Werdum, who retaliated when they bumped into each outside of a hotel  in Sydney, Australia days prior to an event.

“All of a sudden I get hit in the face from the side,” Covington said on The MMA Hour show. “I’m like, ‘Whoa, what’s going on?’ I’m a little concussed, like a little bit messed up in the head. Like, whoa, what just happened? All this heat-of-the-moment type stuff. I look up and it’s Fabricio Werdum and he’s still coming at me with his coach Rafael Cordeiro and they’re acting like they’re gonna jump me.”

Werdum was then caught on camera by fellow UFC fighter Dan Hooker throwing, of all things, a boomerang souvenir he’d just bought at Covington, which struck him in the face.

Werdum was arrested for common assault and after Covington opted to press charges he was ultimately fined $600.
