5. Roger Huerta
The first UFC fighter ever to be featured on the cover of Sports Illustrated was not Conor McGregor or Ronda Rousey, it was Roger Huerta.
In 2007 Huerta was a hot up and comer in the UFC, though not one of the company’s stars at that time. Many felt he would reach superstar status however, especially after his submission win over Clay Guida. That fight won “fight of the year” for 2007, and had many feeling that Huerta was a champion in the making. Then it just all fell apart.
He lost his next fight to Kenny Florian (who at this point was only annoying as a fighter, not yet as a commentator) and then to Gray Maynard. After dropping two straight in UFC he signed with Bellator, but his post-UFC fight career has not gone well, with Huerta’s record a measly 2W-6L in that period.
Huerta now lives in Thailand where he often loses fights for the ONE promotion.
