Alex Oliveira’s Grizzly Cut
There have been some truly stomach-churning cuts in the UFC over the years, and the one Alex Oliveira suffered against Gunnar Nelson at UFC 231 on December 8th ranks among the most horrifying.
In the final minute of the second round, Nelson was on top and began to drop down vicious elbows on ‘Cowboy’s’ head, and one sliced open a nasty cut that instantly started bleeding badly.
This wasn’t just a trickle of blood running down his face. Almost instantly it soaked his entire face, and when he struggled to his knees it began sickeningly leaking in a constant stream onto the canvas like someone had left a tap running.
That didn’t stop Nelson from then going for a rear-naked choke and Oliveira almost instantly tapping – admitting later that he did so only due to the copious amounts of crimson pouring from his brow.
Thankfully Oliveira was ok afterwards, though he did require 38 stitches to sow up the cut backstage.
