Drew Chatman’s Sommersault On Top Of Irvins Alaya
It’s somewhat ironic that Drew Chatman’s nickname is ‘The Honorable’ given his bone-headed post-fight celebration after defeating Irvins Alaya at LFA 36 back in March of this year.
The fight-ending sequence was truly bizarre, starting with Alaya kicking Chatman’s leg’s out from under him with a mid-way through the first round.
Alaya followed Chatman to the mat, only to land face-first onto his opponent’s knee, knocking himself out cold.
As Alaya lay face down on the canvas, the 244lb heavyweight then proceeded to celebrate his unlikely victory by standing up, jumping onto his opponent’s back and then using it as a springboard in a failed attempt at a sommersault.
This idiotic act led to Chatman being disqualified, suspended for 90 days and fined the entirety of his $500 fight purse.
Chatman later apologized, but said he wouldn’t consider changing his nickname.
““I do call myself ‘The Honorable’ and I’m not losing that name,” Chatman told MMAfighting.com. “My name is not perfect. So I understand that as a person I have to grow and learn from my mistakes. And I’m not ever gonna be perfect. But I will guarantee you this: It will never happen again.”
