Greg Hardy’s Inhaler
Greg Hardy left everyone dumbfounded when he took a puff from an asthma inhaler inbetween the second and third rounds of his fight with Ben Sosoli at UFC On ESPN 6 earlier this month in Boston.
Hardy had asked a commission representative in the Octagon if it was ok to use it first, and was given permission to do so after claiming that, “it’s USADA approved.”
It was an unprecedented moment in the history of the UFC and left color commentators Daniel Cormier and Dominick Cruz stating their disbelief on air that the fight was being allowed to continue, while UFC VP of Regulatory affairs Marc Ratner came on to the broadcast to confirm that it was against the rules.
“You can’t [use] an inhaler between rounds idiot,” Cormier blasted Hardy on Twitter afterwards. “That is cheating and should be disqualification.”
Though Hardy would go on to win the fight by unanimous decision, the result was swiftly amended to a no-contest ruling afterwards, with the fighter avoiding a disqualification due to the fact he’d asked for permission first.
