The Kevin Randleman Accident At UFC 24
UFC 24 was billed as ‘First Defense,’ a reference to the evening’s main event, which would see Kevin Randleman defend his new heavyweight title against Pedro Rizzo.
However, in one of the most infamous backstage mishaps in UFC history, Randleman somehow managed to slip and knock himself out on the concrete floor while warming up, leaving him concussed and forcing the main event to be scrapped.
Fans were only informed of the mishap at the last minute and needless to say reacted angrily to their evening’s entertainment coming to an abrupt halt.
It was a big blow for the UFC’s owners SEG, who were already struggling financially and had to cancel plans to sell a home video of the event.
