UFC 112
UFC 112 was supposed to be a marquee event in Abu Dhabi to welcome the UFC’s new business partners, Flash Entertainment, who had just bought a 10% stake in the company.
However, Matt Hughes one-sided win over a should-have-stayed-retired Renzo Gracie underwhelmed, while BJ Penn suffered a somewhat controversial title loss to Frankie Edgar in the co-main event.
It was the main event that really turned the event into a farce though as middleweight champion Anderson Silva decided to spend more time showboating and time-wasting than actually fighting against an outmatched Demian Maia.
As a result, fans were left furious and a “disgusted” and “embarassed” Dana White refused to put the belt around Silva afterwards and warned that he’d give the champion his marching orders if he ever fought like that again.
