Mark Munoz
2012 was a rough year for Mark Munoz in the UFC, missing out on a potential title eliminator, then suffering a brutal KO loss, followed by another injury that would keep him out of action for a year.
“I went through depression,” the middleweight told mmafighting.com. “I’m not the kind of person who does parties, drugs or alcohol. I turned to food for my comfort. I got up to 260 pounds. It was really bad. I had to get myself out of that rut.”
Munoz asked his team for help won his next fight after shedding over 60lbs, but after a KO loss to Lyoto Machida he found himself in a dark place yet again.
This time Munoz utilized a mental health coach who, “changed my way of thinking about training (and) he’s changed the way I think about fighting. He’s opened doors,” while also offering coping mechanisms to deal with defeat.
