Mike Guymon
In mid 2009, Mike Guymon successfully defended his King Of The Cage welterweight title to to go 10-2-1 in his MMA career, but then not long after attempted suicide.
Guymon’s personal battle with depression had come to a head that August when an argument with his wife over a possible divorce led to a decision to take his life, but thankfully his spouse took his gun from him and police later ignored his repeated demands to shoot him.
Guymon had to undergo pyschological evaluation, but was then released and with his wife still by his side he successfully defended his title a few months later before getting the chance to sign for the UFC, where he’d compete several times and also fight for Bellator before retiring.
“Now, I’m using my support system, using my friends and not trying to be a stubborn a-hole and do it all on my own,” Guymon said in 2011.
