Danny Missin vs. Aaron Aby
Having lost three fights in a row, there was a lot of pressure on Danny Missin to get back to winning ways when he went up against Aaron Aby at FCC 11 in 2014.
Missin fought like a man possessed in the opening round and had Aby badly hurt as he landed a brutal series of elbows that led to his opponent sinking to the canvas, before repeated unanswered ground and pound blows left him bloodied and dazed.
The full extent of the damage only became clear when Missin let Aby back up, only to watch him stagger and fell back down to the canvas in a heap.
At that stage Missin protested with the referee to end the fight, but the official hesitated as Aby struggled to his feet again, only to then flop face first onto the canvas moments later.
Before the ref even had a chance to end the fight Missin turned his back and waved his arms, indicating that he wasn’t willing to continue fighting the clearly concussed Aby, and thankfully the referee agreed.
“At the time I felt like I’d done enough to win and I didn’t want to give any more unneccessary damage, because at the end of the day we’ve got to brush it off, get back in the gym all us competitors, and get back out there,” Missin said in his post-fight interview. “If you take too much unnecessary damage that might not happen.”
