Donald Cerrone vs. Yancy Medeiros
Donald Cerrone and Yancy Medeiros’ mutual respect for one another led to some endearing moments of sportsmanship before, during and after their main event UFC Fight Night scrap in 2018.
At the weigh-ins, Medeiros gave Cerrone a gift, a special ‘Cowboy’ style Paniolo hat from his native Hawaii that was clearly appreciated by the popular star.
Then, during the fight Medeiros threw a one-two at Cerrone, but then lost his footing and fell backwards onto the mat.
Cerrone could have pounced on him and gone for a finish, but seeing that it had just been a slip, ‘Cowboy’ instead let him get back up, at which point Medeiros high-fived him and the two exchanged grins and a brief embrace before fighting on.
In the end Cerrone would TKO Medeiros late in the round, and then got down on his knees and thanked his opponent for taking the fight.
Then Medeiros went out of the cage and gave Cerrone’s grandmother a big hug and got a kiss in return. She had apparently been so taken with him giving her grandson a gift pre-fight that she had requested his address so she could return the gesture.
