UFC 233
The UFC had hoped to start 2019 with a bang, as they prepared for their first big pay-per-view of the year, UFC 233 in January, along with their debut on the ESPN network.
However, the demand for high-profile fights during that busy period was stretching the UFC to breaking point and meant that they couldn’t find a big fight to front the UFC On ESPN 1 event on January 19th.
Such was the expectations for that show that they decided to move the intended main event for UFC 233, a strawweight title superfight between Henry Cejudo and TJ Dillashaw, over to the ESPN card the week before.
The rest of the UFC 233 card was just too thin to hold up on it’s own and then had to be scrapped altogether.
