‘Funky’ Ben Askren’s afro certainly helps him stand out from the crowd, but it’s definitely not a look that’s likely to intimidate his opponents.
Not that Askren seems like he loses any sleep over that as he strolls around in his flip flops outside the cage sporting a physique that suggests he’s not seen the inside of a weights room in quite some time.
As anyone who’s grappled him will attest though, Askren is actually uncommonly strong and this life-long wrestler was so talented on the mat that he represented the U.S. at the Olympics in 2008 in addition to winning two NCAA championships.
His MMA resume is also stellar, having been the reigning, defending champion in both the Bellator and ONE FC organizations during a 20-fight winning streak, while he’s currently a top 10 ranked welterweight in the UFC.
