Cat Zingano vs. Ronda Rousey
Cat Zingano faced a daunting challenge when she was granted a title shot against Ronda Rousey at UFC 184 in February of 2015.
After all, at the time Rousey was the dominant champion in the division with a perfect 10-0 record and had just KO’d Alexis Davis in just 16 seconds.
However, Zingano herself was 9-0 and was looking to try something different against ‘Rowdy’ in an attempt to find a weakness in her MMA game.
As a result, when the opening bell sounded, Zingano charged full speed across the Octagon at Rousey and attempted to throw a flying knee.
Unfortunately for her, Rousey reacted with instinctive, cat-like reflexes to not only avoid the blow, but also simultaneously bring Zingano down, take her back and work for her trademark armbar submission to force the tapout with only 14 seconds on the clock!
After the fight Rousey revealed that she had been preparing for Zingano to come out of the blocks fast since she’d been receiving some criticism pre-fight for being a slow starter.
“We were expecting that she might come out and do something flying at me right away,” Rousey told reporters.
