Eddie Alvarez vs. Timofey Nastyukhin
Having already suffered a broken orbital bone a few years earlier, Alvarez experienced another grim eye injury just a few years later.
Earlier this year, Alvarez made his debut as ONE FC’s latest high-profile signings from the UFC against Timofey Nastyukhin in the quarter-finals of the promotion’s lightweight grand-prix.
In the final minute of the round, Alvarez was caught by a big punch and then more behind it, and though Alvarez was known for coming back against-the-odds in fights he was losing, he just clutched at his face in pain and dropped to the floor, leading to a TKO stoppage.
“The punch that hit me, instantly blinded me and split both eyelids in half,” Alvarez said afterwards. “It felt like my eye exploded from the inside and the pain was instant.”
