Cat Zingano vs. Megan Anderson
Cat Zingano suffered the very definition of a freak injury in her featherweight debut against Megan Anderson at UFC 232 late last year.
Only a minute into the fight Anderson threw a head kick that resulted in her big toe connecting with Zingano’s eye, bringing an immediate end to the fight.
“I thought I lost my eye,” Zingano admitted a few months later of that alarming moment. “I thought if I opened my eye that it was going to spill out on to my face. I didn’t want to open it in the cage.”
Thankfully it wasn’t quite that bad, though Zingano had suffered a damaged iris and retina, a hemorrhage in the back of her eye and a laceration to her eyelid.
Zingano is expected to make a full recovery, though even a few months later she was still experiencing symptoms, such as floaters and flashes of light in that eye, a pulsing sensation when she works out along with balance and depth perception issues.
