Alan Belcher vs. Michael Bisping

It’s somewhat of a coincidence that Alan Belcher suffered an eye injury against Michael Bisping in 2013, given that his opponent was also suffering from a retinal detachment at the time.

Belcher had experienced the same injury three years earlier after initially experiencing vision loss following a sparring session in Brazil.

He required emergency surgery after flying home, but his vision was permanently damaged, and only a month later he had a second surgery after another retinal detachment.

At the time Belcher was facing up to the possibility that he would have to retire, but after well over a year recovering he was able to fight on.

Then in 2013, Belcher came up against Bisping and in the third round was accidentally poked in the eye.

It was the same eye that had caused Belcher so much trouble in the past, and it was now pouring with blood, leavinf ‘The Talent’ unable to continue.

Thankfully for Belcher, there was no permanent damage, but he would step away from fighting afterwards, never to return.
