Tim Sylvia vs. Tra Telligman
Tra Telligman fell victim to an unexpected head kick from former heavyweight champion Tim Sylvia in the final second of the first round in their UFC 54 fight in 2005.
The 6ft 8″ Sylvia was much better known for his punches, but this rare heavyweight head kick landed cleanly and instantly switched off Telligman’s lights.
The sight of Telligman’s body slumped motionless on the canvas was largely shielded from viewers afterwards, only getting a brief glimpse of the fighter eventually being lifted out of the Octagon on a stretcher.
The fact this would prove to be Telligman’s last ever fight led to some conspiracy theories on the the internet that the fighter had in fact died as a result of the blow and the UFC had covered it up to avoid bad publicity.
Of course this wasn’t true at all, but it does speak to just how nasty the knockout was.
