Aleksander Rakic vs. Jimi Manuwa

There were already concerns that Jimi Manuwa’s chin had gone before he even stepped into the Octagon with Aleksander Rakic at UFC Fight Night 153 in June.

After all, the 39-year-old ‘Poster Boy’s’ kill-or-be-killed style had seen him knocked out cold in two of his last three fights.

Then, just 47 seconds into his fight with rising Austrian fighter Rakic he was caught clean by a head kick that would leave him stretched out on the canvas, motionless.

“That is one of the most vicious knockouts I’ve ever seen live,” commentator John Gooden solemnly declared.

Manuwa stayed like that for two minutes before thankfully regaining consciousness, but just days later he announced his retirement, stating that his fan-friendly fighting style, “takes a toll on the body, especially concussions, which are not visible to the eye.”
