Igor Pokrajac vs. Krzysztof Soszynski
On paper this fight at UFC 140 in 2011 looked like being a bloody war between two battle-hardened veterans, but instead just 35 seconds into the first round a sustained series of punches saw Soszynski slump to the mat, whereby follow-up blows to the temple rendered him unconscious.
It was the first clean KO loss of Sosyznski’s career and it would also prove to be his last fight.
Sosynski lay unreponsive for several minutes afterwards, though according to the fighter himself it was 40 minutes later before his brain seemed to power up again. By that stage he’d already given a post-fight interview, had a shower and got changed, but he couldn’t remember anything about that.
Soszynski suffered from CTE symptoms afterwards, including continued short-term memory loss, forcing him into retirement, but he has since been employed as the director of MMA & fitness at the UFC Gym Middle East.
