Gary Goodridge vs. Paul Herrera
Gary Goodridge only had an arm wrestling background prior to his MMA debut at UFC 8, but at 6ft 3″ tall and weighing 250lbs, he had a big size advantage over the 5ft 10″, 185lb wrestler Herrera.
He also had devised a gameplan with his team after noticing that Herrera was constantly practising the same ‘fireman’s carry’ takedown over and over again, so in the fight ‘Big Daddy’ was able to stuff that and then counter with a crucifix-style hold, trapping one of Herrera’s arms with his own and then the other between his legs.
At this point Goodridge started hammering huge elbows into the side of Herrera’s head. Within a couple of blows Herrera was already out, but another half-dozen landed before it was all over.
The whole fight had lasted just 13 seconds, but was one of the most violent finishes of all-time in the Octagon, leaving Herrera badly concussed and suffering from a fractured cheekbone.
