Tank Abbott vs John Matua
Tank Abbott announced his arrival in the MMA world at UFC 6 in 1995 with a knockout so brutal that some people feared they’d just witnessed the first death inside the Octagon.
A self-confessed barroom brawler, Abbott waded forward from the opening bell and clubbed the 400lb John Matua over the head with a right hand, sending him down on one knee.
Matua got back to his feet, but Abbott continued to hurl heavy leather at him, with a right hand then knocking him out cold, followed by a further completely unneccessary bomb of a right hand that left Matua completely stiff with his arms outstretched and his legs shaking uncontrollably only 18 seconds into the fight.
It was a shocking sight for everybody but Abbott, who glanced back at Matua and then callously mocked his unconscious pose without a care in the world.
