Rashad Evans vs Chuck Liddell
Coming off a ‘Fight Of The Year’ victory over Wanderlei Silva in 2008. Chuck Liddell was looking to get back into title contention against Rashad Evans at UFC 88.
Instead he became the recipient of a legendary knockout loss as mid-way through the second round Evans threw a devastatingly power overhand that rattled his brain so hard that he instantly collapsed face down on the canvas unconscious.
It was the first time that ‘The Iceman’ had been completely knocked out cold in his career, but instinctively there was a sense that this single blow would change the course of his career.
“He’s STILL out!” Joe Rogan observed from cage-side over two minutes after the final blow landed, and it was some time after that before fans finally breathed a sigh of relief when he groggily came too.
Liddell was never the same fighter after that night and would be forced into retirement by Dana White after two more losses proved his chin was gone.
