The Suloev Stretch
Kenny Robertson had a secret weapon with his rarely seen Suloev Stretch submission, which he’d first perfected as a college wrestler (tearing an opponent’s hamstring in half in the process).
Robertson would go on to become the first fighter to pull off the move, which is essentially a kneebar from back mount, in the UFC when he caught Brock Jardine with it at UFC 157 in 2013.
A further five years would go past without witnessing the submission again until at UFC 228 in 2018, Aljamain Sterling thrilled fans by producing a suloev stretch submission against Cody Stamman.
Remarkably, just a few fights later on the same card, Zabit Magomedsharipov made the night even more memorable when he also finished with the same move against Brandon Davis.
As a result the two fighters would go on to share ESPN’s ‘Submission of The Year’ award for 2018 thanks to their creativity and skill.
