The Ezekiel Choke

Of all the ‘firsts’ in the UFC in terms of submission finishes, perhaps one of the least surprising was that of the Ezekiel Choke that Aleksei Oeinik initially went into the UFC history books for at UFC Fight Night 103 in 2017.

After all, by that stage the heavyweight had already won no less than nine fights outside of the Octagon with the same move over the course of his long career.

The move is common in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu with the gi, but requires modification for no-gi to use the wrist instead of the sleeve, but while it’s rarely used in MMA competition, Oleinik has become a master in it’s application.

Oleinik first defeated Viktor Pesto with the move in the UFC, but then showed it off again a year later against Junior Albini.
