The Omaplata

Omaplata’s are occasionally seen in MMA, but often are used more as a way to sweep on top rather than to finish a fight.

That didn’t stop Ben Saunders however when he fought Chris Heatherly in his return to the UFC after a four year absence in 2014.

Saunders used the shoulder lock to roll on top during the fight, but didn’t let it go, instead torquing on the shoulder as the commentator’s noted that Heatherly’s face was contorted in pain.

In the end Heatherly was forced to tapout and Saunders went into the record books for the first omaplata submission in UFC history.
